If you've never had professional photos taken before, don't worry—you are not alone! In fact, many of my clients tell me they're nervous before their session. My job isn't just to take beautiful photographs; it's to help you feel comfortable, confident, and completely yourself.

Before Your Session

Once your session is booked, I'll work with you to choose the perfect location, discuss wardrobe ideas, and answer any questions you may have. Whether you're envisioning open prairies, rolling hills, a favorite ranch, or a quiet spot that holds special meaning, we'll find a location that tells your story.

I'll also send you a planning guide with helpful tips on clothing, colors, timing, and preparing for your session so you'll feel ready long before we meet.

What to Wear

The best outfit is one that feels like *you*. Neutral colors, earthy tones, soft textures, and timeless pieces photograph beautifully and keep the focus on the people in the images. Coordinating outfits work much better than matching exactly, and I recommend choosing clothing that allows you to move comfortably and naturally.

During Your Session

The most common thing I hear is, *"I don't know how to pose."*

Good news—you don't have to.

I'll gently guide you throughout your session with simple prompts and natural direction. Instead of stiff poses, we'll focus on movement, conversation, genuine laughter, and authentic connection. We'll walk, visit, laugh, and capture the little in-between moments that often become everyone's favorite photographs.

Children don't need to sit perfectly still. Dogs don't have to perform every command. Horses don't have to stand perfectly square. Sometimes the unexpected moments become the most treasured memories.

Relax and Enjoy the Experience

Your session isn't a test. There is no "perfect" family, "perfect" smile, or "perfect" pose.

The goal is simply to celebrate this season of your life exactly as it is.

Some of my favorite images happen when no one realizes I'm pressing the shutter.

After Your Session

After your session, I'll carefully hand-edit each selected image to reflect my signature style while preserving natural colors, authentic emotions, and timeless beauty.

Within approximately **2–3 weeks**, you'll receive an online gallery where you can download your high-resolution images, order professional-quality prints, albums, wall art, and share your gallery with family and friends.

A Few Helpful Tips

* Arrive a few minutes early so everyone has time to relax.

* Stay hydrated, especially during warmer months.

* Bring comfortable shoes if we'll be walking to your location.

* Pack water, snacks, or favorite toys for little ones.

* Don't stress if children or pets have their own agenda—I promise we'll work with them, not against them.

* Trust the process. Some of the most meaningful photographs happen naturally.

Most Importantly... Come as you are.

Bring your laughter, your messy hair, your muddy boots, your curious kids, your beloved horses, your wagging dogs, and your genuine smiles.

Those aren't imperfections.

They're your story.

Montana weather has a personality all its own, and sometimes Mother Nature has plans of her own! At Phoenix Sage Studio, your safety, comfort, and the quality of your images are always my top priorities.

Most sessions can continue in a variety of weather conditions. Overcast skies often create beautiful, soft light, while light snow or a gentle drizzle can add a unique and memorable touch to your photographs. However, sessions may be postponed if weather conditions create an unsafe or uncomfortable environment or would significantly impact the quality of your images.

Weather conditions that may require rescheduling include:

Heavy rain or persistent downpours

Severe thunderstorms or lightning

High winds that create unsafe conditions

Hail

Extreme heat or extreme cold

Wildfire smoke or poor air quality

Road closures or hazardous travel conditions

The decision to postpone due to weather will be made by Phoenix Sage Studio, typically 12–24 hours before your scheduled session, with consideration given to the most current forecast. If conditions are questionable, I will remain in communication with you and may wait until the day of the session if forecasts are expected to improve.

If a session must be rescheduled due to weather, there is no rescheduling fee. Together, we'll choose the next available date that works for both of us.

If you choose to reschedule for reasons unrelated to weather after the weather has been deemed suitable for your session, the standard rescheduling policy outlined in your contract will apply.

One of my favorite things about photography is embracing the unexpected. Some of the most beautiful images are created beneath dramatic clouds, during fresh snowfall, or just after a summer rain. If the weather is safe and you're feeling adventurous, we may decide together to capture something truly unforgettable.
